The School of Paramedic Training was established in University of Benin Teaching Hospital in 2008 as part of the Institute of Health Technology. The school was established by the then Chief Medical Director Prof. Eugene Okpere and the Director of the Training till date is Prof. Pius Iribhogbe. In 2014 the Federal Ministry of Health(FMOH) and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) launched the National Curriculum for Paramedic Training in Nigeria, which has been adopted by UBTH Paramedic school. The UBTH paramedic training programme spans for five(5) years; 2 years National Diploma, a year internship and 2 years Higher National Diploma. The first year, the students engage in only theory work, the second year involves theory work and clinical postings, the third year is a year industrial training out side the institute while the fourth and fifth year involves both theory works and clinical postings within the hospital unit.

Fountain of Living water (FLW) an NGO based in New Jersey, USA have made several on site visits to UBTH and trained paramedic students based on the courses they are being taught in their respective levels. Such courses include Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support(PALS), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), amongst others. The UBTH Paramedic programme partners with Fountain of Living Water, Bergen County EMS and Professor Bryan Bledsoe a paramedic and professor of Emergency Medicine at Nevada School of Medicine. This has led to the donation of mannequins, textbooks and several other training equipment to the UBTH paramedic programme. The partnership has also enabled some Paramedics trained in UBTH travel to the United States of America (USA) for on site training in more advanced paramedic care and after which, returns to impact the knowledge and skills acquired.
